Keywords: Rectal Prolapse, Altemeier’s Procedure, Incarcerated

Abstract

Complete rectal prolapse is the full-thickness wall prolapse of the rectum through the anal canal. Incarceration is a rare complication of rectal prolapse. We report a case of a 75-years-old woman with myelomeningocele, schizophrenia, severe scoliosis, and cerebral palsy history who underwent perineal rectosigmoidectomy (Altemeier’s procedure) due to incarcerated rectal prolapse. With favorable operative outcome, the patient was discharged on the fifth postoperative day.
