Abstract

Abstract. Introduction: Colonic polyps are a common entity in the general population. Their significance lies in being potential precursors of colorectal cancers. In their study and treatment, the role of endoscopy is crucial, not only in diagnosis but often therapeutically by allowing for their resection. Surgery is reserved for those patients where an invasive malignant lesion requiring block resection is detected or for situations where a polyp is detected that may or may not present suspicious elements and cannot be safely resected endoscopically. The demonstrated advantages of laparoscopic colorectal surgery make this approach the gold standard for both benign and malignant pathology. It has evolved over the past decades, from the '90s to the present day, undergoing necessary studies for oncological validation. Not all patients are candidates for this approach, and the choice depends on various factors such as the team's experience, the complexity of the surgery, and the patient's condition, so the decision must be individualized. Undoubtedly, one of the most complex laparoscopic procedures in colon surgery is exclusive transverse colectomy. This requires a very high level of knowledge of the region's anatomy, as well as advanced surgical expertise to perform the procedure with technical and oncological safety.

Description: We present the experience of our center in treating a 61-year-old male patient with a polypoid lesion of the colon with suspicious elements of malignancy that could not be resected endoscopically. Below is a video showing the step-by-step process of a laparoscopic segmental resection of the transverse colon.
