Giant colonic diverticulum of colon sigma
Abstract
The giant diverticulum of sigma is a very rare entity, having only described 166 cases to date (1). Presenting symptoms vary, from acute abdomen to chronic, nonspecific abdominal discomfort reminiscent of acute diverticulitis in its usual presentation. The most important complications of a giant diverticulum are perforation, obstruction, or valvulation. Abdominal radiography or opaque enema show a large gas-filled cavity (Globe sign), regular and with smooth walls , with computed tomography being the test of choice for diagnosis and treatment is surgical, with resection in block of the colon segment in which it occurs.
