EFFICACY OF USING TOPIC TADALAFIL IN TREATMENT OF ANAL FISSURE. Results of a cooperative study
Abstract
Introduction: non-surgical treatment of chronic anal fissure includes several options. Topical Tadalafil has not been yet deeply analyzed in literature.
Objective: To analyze results and morbidity of topical tadalafil as a medical treatment of chronic anal fissure.
Design: Observational non-randomized prospective analysis.
Patients: 86 patients (61% male). Period: 2011-2018. Setting: two Single-Private Institution.
Methods: Patients with chronic anal fissure (more than 8 weeks). Patients who did not finished treatment were excluded. Results, morbidity, recurrence and follow-up.
Results: 86 patients were included, 53 were male (61%), 77 of them were older than 55 years old. 82,5% were cured and 11,6% did have to underwent surgery to fulfill complete healing. here was only one session in 178 cases. 72% of patient’s complete treatment in 2 months (p=0,002), 7 patients in 3 months, 12 p between 3 and 6 months and 5 in 6 months. 64% of them did not have associated perianal disease. 95% had no adverse effects.
Discussion and conclusion: treatment with topical tadalafil presented high level of resolution and even no side effects due to treatment. Standard surgery resolved symptoms without resolution after treatment. Further studies are necessary to confirm these results.
