Postcoital trauma – Rectovaginal Fistula Case report and bibliographic review
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction: The compromise of the rectum and the abnormal communication between it and the vagina is unusual, being called the recto-vaginal fistula (RVF).
They are classified as simple or complex based on their size, location, and underlying etiology.
Method: We report a case of a 27-year-old female patient with a postcoital recto-vaginal fistula with perforation of the rectovaginal septum 1 cm from the introitus and 2 cm from the anal margin.
Simple closure of the lesion is performed with a transanal and transvaginal approach.
Control at 6 months without evidence of recurrence.
Conclusion: The repair with simple closure of the rectus-vaginal fistulae with anal and vaginal approach presents good results with recovery and total healing of the lesion, especially for simple fistulas. Complex injuries must be treated with caution and the root cause taken into account.
